Matthew Michael Ritter: Cool dude and Starr Mazer writer

Postby matthewmritter » Tue Jun 23, 2015 4:19 pm

Greetings fellow humans!

I'm Matthew. I'm one of the writers on Starr Mazer. I wasn't on the project from the get go but I'm very persistent. Also, annoying. I manged to weasel my way in. This is partially because of my immense talent and partially the sheer amount of writing is a lot for just one or two people. Not that Dan and Vanessa aren't brilliant. Just getting extra help can be nice when there's this much stuff that needs written out.

I've worked in the games industry for awhile. Most notably I was a writer over at Telltale Games and I worked on the Walking Dead and Tales From the Borderlands. I'll be trying to bring my experience in interactive fiction to the team so we don't fall into a lot of time losing pitfalls that can happen.

My special skills include:

-Used to be a professional pixel artist.
-Failed out of art school.
-Often gets to and too mixed up. Than and then as well. Who says you have to be good at grammar to be a writer?
-Able to write a coherent first draft in a surprisingly short amount of time.
-Can and will drop Sci Fi references at any moment.
-Critically acclaimed graphic novel and comic writer.
-Can do coin rolling and not bad at throwing cards.
-Wears a lot of cowboy hats. Because I think I'm a cowboy. Sadly, I am not a cowboy.

Some of the reasons I got on this project was my comic book work. I do a pixel art comic called Nova Phase.

Space western. Super cool. Best comic ever. Yada yada. It's on amazon and comixology if anyone is interested. It's got more of a focus on the western aspect and less on the opera side of space stuff. Check it out. I also did a graphic novel called Retropunk, but I won't force a cover down anyone's throats. That's cyberpunk and glorious as well.

I'm just really happy to be on this project. Writing about killing aliens, saving aliens, and flying around in space blowing up aliens. I really can't imagine a better way to be spending my time. What about on a bed with infinite money you ask? I'd use that money to fund more projects about the things I just mentioned.

If anyone wants to ask me anything they can. I'll answer anything I am able to, or more likely say 'uh, you should bug Don.'

Happy to meet all you... uh... Mazers? Is that what you call yourselves? What does Don call you... I feel like I should have looked that up before posting this.

Regardless, nice to meet all of you!

-Always

Matthew Ritter

Heya, nice to formally meet you - and yeah mazers seems to be the term we ended up with.

As a fan of telltale games I'm super excited you're going to be working on Starrmazer - though looks like the ones you worked on weren't the ones I know (I mainly have the Sam and Max games, also Monkey Island and Strong Bad), but it's still really cool that you're here and helping make this awesome game :)

Oh man! Glad to have you on board! Love the Telltale games, I've got a bunch of friends who work over at SuperGenius and they forced me to play through them all. (That sentence might not make any sens to anybody but potentially you and me.)

So cool you could join the Starr Mazer crew, Matthew! I must say, as an amateur pixel artist who's trying to work his way up, your art is absolutely fantastic, I'll totally check out your comic! Glad to see you here, and I hope of good things for you and Starr Mazer in the future! :)

Welcome to the forum, Matthew!

So, how many Blade Runner references are there in the script right now? No less than a hundred, I'd expect.
